This semester, the geodesy and earth science students at TUG are introduced to the intricacies of GRACE processing.
In the lecture ‘Advanced Satellite Geodesy’ the students are taken through each step of the processing chain from raw data to the final gravity field models. Each lecture is held by one of the staff members of the GRACE group here at the Institute of Geodesy, presenting their respective research fields. The treated topics range from precise orbit determination and the mathematical basis of the observation model to dynamic orbit integration. There will also be a large block dealing with the instruments onboard GRACE and how their noise behavior can be modeled. My contribution deals with high frequency (read daily) mass transport, the GRACE Kalman filter and the challenge of translating the individual processing steps to near real-time, so the EGSIEM NRT service is also prominently featured.

Below are some impressions from lectures and some teaser slides of upcoming topics.
